Mianne Bagger was born in Denmark on Christmas Day, 1966. During her youth her family moved several times, from Denmark to England and back, and then to Australia. She took up golf at the age of eight at the same time as her father, and played until she was twenty-three, achieving a very respectable 4 handicap.

Bagger moved to Australia in 1979. As her golf improved, her personal life became increasingly uncomfortable. "I have always known there was something different about me since I was young, we are born this way. You certainly don't go through surgery lightly," she says. Finally she took the decision to begin the process of transforming herself from a man to a woman.

In 1995, at the of age 28, she had sex reassignment surgery in Australia, where she currently resides. In 1998, she returned to golf, as an amateur in Australia.

Mianne kept practicing her game of golf over the years she was going through her transition, hormones, surgery and getting used to her new identity. In 1998, she took up 'social golf' again and began to enjoy it. She entered an amateur tournament and won it. She went on to win the South Australian State Championship for amateurs in 1999, 2001 and 2002 and achieved a handicap of 1, finally turning pro in 2003 by joining the Danish PGA.

When she started playing amateur tournaments in Australia, she caused a media stir. Many golf fans argued that her being born a male could give her an advantage over other, non-transsexual female competitors. Bagger answered by saying that many people don't understand the concept of sexual reassignment surgery. But since the Australian Women's Golf Association has no ban against transgendered females, she was welcomed to play there. At Bagger's first tournament as a professional, Laura Davies and Rachel Teske were among players who were happy to allow Mianne to compete.

She caused another media stir in 2003, when she attempted to join the Australian Ladies Professional Golf Association (ALPGA) branch of the LPGA. Commissioner Ty Votaw said "right now, our rule is that they have to be born women". Mianne notes that "they obviously don't consider that I meet that condition," referring to biology not being the sole determinant of whether someone is a woman or not. However, Votaw left the possibility open for that rule to change in the future.

The 2004 ruling by the International Olympic Committee regarding transsexual athletes led to a re-examination of rules in many sports. In November 2004, the ALPGA voted in favor of changing their constitution to remove the gender clause, thus making Bagger eligible to join the ALPG Tour.

On 9 February 2005, the Ladies Golf Union announced a policy change which allowed Bagger to compete in the Women's British Open. On 21 March 2005, The United States Golf Association announced it has adopted a new policy that allows transsexual athletes to compete in USGA golf championships, including the upcoming U.S. Women's Open.

In her first major outing as a pro, she failed to qualify for the final two rounds of the 2004 Women's Australian Open in March, but persevered and determined to come to the LET Q-school where, after six qualifying rounds and a four over par total, she finished tenth overall and won her card.

Their marriage is "invalid" and will not be recognized by the law and religion, but for Jessie Chung and Joshua Beh the most important thing now is they are happy and satisfied with their relationship.

Chung, who was born a male and had undergone sex change operations three years ago, said "she" was fully aware of the Malaysian law that does not allow its citizens to change their gender in their identity cards and that their marriage is "invalid" according to the Marriage and Divorce Reform Act 1976.

"I'm very happy, grateful to the people surrounding us. We're very happy even though it (the marriage) is not recognized by the government, but it is recognized by my parents, his parents, which is very, very important. They are very loving, open minded and understanding," said Chung when interviewed by Bernama and Utusan Malaysia at her residence here Tuesday.

Chung and Beh held their lavish wedding reception for some 800 friends and relatives at a leading hotel here Saturday night, November 12th, 2005. Believed to be the first of its kind in this country, Chung and Beh's marriage was blessed by peninsula-based Charismatic Church.

Three pastors from Bountiful Harvest, Shepherd's Centre and Assembly of Love presided over the solemn ceremony attended by some 800 relatives and friends. The couples' parents gave their consent for Chung and Beh to tie the knot and signed their customary marriage documents.

Donning a striking pink `baju kurung' and Beh in a batik shirt, Chung, who was smiling and happy throughout the interview, said she had no hard feelings against the authority and the church's remark that their marriage is illegal.

"For us, the customary marriage is very important and we're not fighting for legal status or asking legal recognition as long as our parents, relatives, friends accept our marriage. We've now settled down and both of us are keeping a very healthy relationship," said Beh, an accountant who hails from Ipoh.

To a question whether they are prepared to migrate if the situation does not permit them to live as husband and wife, Chung said she would not do so. "I won't leave this country unless my parents or his parents, my relatives and friends don't accept me as what I'm now, then I have no choice, but not because of the government.

"I respect the view of the government and they must have a valid reason for having such a law. I respect them (the authorities) and I will not fight against them," said Chung, who advised other transsexual people not to go against the authorities. Chung, who had once lived in the United States, Canada and China, described Malaysia as the best Muslim country and peaceful, that all races in the country could live in peace and harmony.

Saying that she could have continued to stay in the United States where she could earn a lavish income with her qualification as a doctor 10 years ago, Chung said she decided to return to Malaysia because of her love for this country. Chung, who is trained in nutritional therapy, now runs a natural health farm business in Kuala Lumpur and Kuching. "I want to contribute to this country and the society here. I'm useful in this country and have been helping thousands of sick people over the past 20 years through my clinics and health care centres.

"I'm happy with what I'm doing," she said, adding that she plans to settle down in Kuching. Asked on their sex life, Chung, who described her sex life as "fantastic" said they were satisfied living as husband and wife. On whether they would have "children", she said that they have no plans yet at the moment.
